Wearing the original "Blake Bot."

The hospital room where we received Blake’s cancer diagnosis.
On November 14, 2011, our three-year old son, Blake, began his courageous battle with
kidney cancer. With the sudden announcement of his diagnosis, our carefree little boy was introduced to surgery, days in the PICU, sessions of radiation, chemotherapy and a litany of shots and medicine that would quickly become our constant companions.
Catching a ride on his IV pole, up to the rooftop playground.
Through the eight months of chemo treatments that followed, Blake inspired us with his
trusting faith in his Heavenly Father. In the scary moments – and there were many such
moments - Blake sang a prayer he had learned at church, "Do not be afraid. God is with
you. He hears you every time you pray."

Just weeks before his diagnosis, Blake had asked me to sew him a robot hat. "A robot hat?"  How was I going to make a robot hat for my little boy? So, my search was on to rise to the challenge and create the perfect quirky robot hat, as unique as the little boy who would wear it. Our project was a great success! Blake put on his hat and was transformed into our little “Blake Bot” running around the house and shooting laser guns, as only a three-year old robot can do.
Blake shows off his tongue turned blue from a sucker given to him after the morning's radiation treatment.
Little did we know that the same hat that transformed our three year old boy into a quirky robot, would soon be the covering for his precious little bald head on the way to early morning radiation treatments and countless trips to the oncology clinic. Our wonderful oncology nurses recognized Blake from the moment they saw “Blake Bot” in the distance.  His hat was his trademark. Through the challenges of the diagnosis of childhood cancer, “Blake Bot” made everyone smile.
Blake is cancer free!
We walked the recovery journey one moment at a time. Today we fast forward through
those grueling months of treatment … and Blake is miraculously free from cancer!

Blake’s prognosis is good and for that we give all the glory to Jesus Christ, our Savior and Healer. We pray constantly for our son and for the children we have met on this journey.  We pass along the strength we received from so many who have gone before us to those who will suddenly hear an unimaginable diagnosis for their own little heroes.
Blake’s Make A Wish trip | We are all smiles!
Fear is the emotional power of cancer. It lurks in the shadows waiting to suffocate hope. We found deeper meaning in this Bible Verse "There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear." - 1 John 4:18 God's love was, and still is, big enough to handle all of our fears, doubts, anger and pain.

There were many people and organizations who came along side us during this journey.  The National Children's Cancer Society was there for us as a resource we relied on for information and support, as well as financial assistance for bills associated with Blake's many hospital stays.

It is our desire to help other families whose children are in the fight against cancer. It is with this goal in mind that we began Wild 'n' Wooly Creations. When you purchase any hat from our shop, we will donate 10% of the proceeds to the National Children’s Cancer Society.

Thank you for visiting us, reading Blake's story and partnering with us as we seek to share this "perfect love" with others!
